Treatment & Management of InjuriesThe Football Association takes a lead role in ensuring that those involved in the game, whether as players, medical or exercise science staff, benefit from the latest advances in the treatment and prevention of sports injuries and the development of youth and adult players


FA Emergency First Aid Certificate
The FA Emergency Aid Certificate is for all coaches, medics and referees in football where youngsters are involved, including where Under 18s are playing adult football. For those involved with Charter Standard or taking coaching, medical and refereeing qualifications, Emergency Aid is mandatory. The topics covered in this course include Approach to an incident, Checking responses, Opening the airway, Checking the pulse, Recovery position, Breathing for the casualty, Chest Compressions, Resuscitation, Dressing of wounds and Heart Attacks.

PLEASE NOTE: This course is included as part of FA Level 1 coaching courses.

FA Level 2 Basic Certificate in the Treatment of Injuries
The FA’s Basic Course in the Treatment and Management of Injury is a foundation course open anyone over the age of 16. It is aimed at personnel acting as ‘Manager’, ‘ Coach’, ‘Trainer’ or ‘Therapist’ for Amateur and Youth Clubs and for Teachers responsibility for school teams. The course aims to train a person in the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to recognise and differentiate major from minor injury and the ability to offer basic treatment and injury management advice to a player who has sustained a major injury when playing football.

FA Level 3 Intermediate Certificate in the Treatment of Injuries
The FA Intermediate Course has been designed for those who have the FA Basic TOI Certificate and wish to progress further than the knowledge and skills already gained, and for those who wish to progress to the FA’s Diploma Course who need to successfully complete this course level to qualify for access to it.
