23/07/2008
Footballers at Fosse Way School were celebrating today following a grant of £7,260 awarded by the Football Foundation, the UK’s largest sports charity.
The cash bonanza will allow Fosse Way School to receive weekly coaching from Radstock Town Manager Keith Brown; enable pupils from Fosse Way, Norton Hill, Somervale and Writhlington to complete their Junior Football Organisers (JFO) Course; pay for Fosse Way staff to complete FA Level 1 and Coaching Disabled Footballers Courses, as well as hold several Football Fun Days at the school.
The Football Foundation is dedicated to revitalising the grass roots of the game, constructing modern football facilities, developing football as a force for social cohesion and as a vehicle for education in communities throughout the country. Funded by the Premier League, The Football Association, Sport England and the Government, the Football Foundation is the nation’s largest sports charity with a £45m budget going straight into the heart of football.
Amy Kington, Football Development Officer from Somerset FA said “We have been working with Fosse Way School and The Football Foundation to help develop opportunities for players with a disability. This much needed funding will help players follow their dreams, have fun, fulfill their potential and access high quality football tailored to individual need.
Dave Burston, Partnership Development Manager of the School Sport Partnership commented that “the development of high quality young leaders and coaches is an important aspect of the government programme to increase participation across all school settings. We will work closely with Fosse Way to deliver the planned courses and activities”
Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation said: “We warmly congratulate the club and the local FA for their hard work and dedication in securing this award.
“Sport is playing a central role in helping people to stay fit, strengthen communities and promote responsibility amongst young people. I am delighted that Football Foundation investment is opening up access to sport in Radstock and encourage other organisations in the region to apply to us.”
