RESPECT - Sheppey Valley

The Story so far

The Respect Programme was originally started by the Football Association. Their aim was to improve the game and stamp out bad habits that have crept into the game of football.
The FA approach is to target Parents, Carers, and Players; it was each county FA’s task to deliver the Respect Programme.

Aidan Winney, the Learning Mentor for the Sheppey Valley CLP, with Christine McFarlane, Head Teacher of Stoke St Michael Primary School, was inspired by the FA approach to their Respect Programme.
Together they have created a Respect Programme for schools, aimed at Parents, Careers, Pupils, and all school staff.
The aim is to improve relationships with all adults and children within the Sheppey Valley CLP.
The programme has been originally piloted at Stoke St Michael Primary School and has proven to be a success so far.

June 2010

Over 500 children attended the first Respect festival which has been a massive success the festivals were split into two key stage groups.
Year one’s and two’s were taught football skills by the Somerset FA along with Tesco FA skills coaches.
Years Three, Four, Five, & Six had a mixed school mixed ability world cup competition.

The Sheppey Valley CLP aim to make the Respect programme a blue print for the future, influencing positive behaviour in schools.
