The FA and Tesco have recently combined to provide an exciting programme aimed at giving youngsters up and down the country the opportunity to get active and have fun while improving their football skills.
The three-year programme, coordinated by The FA and funded by Tesco and the National Sports Foundation, aims to give one million children in England top-quality skills coaching by summer 2010 and Somerset County FA is one of twelve pilot counties in the programme.
If you’re aged 5-11 or know any young players of that age who want to improve their football skills, then The FA Tesco Skills Programme is for you.
Why? Because this revolutionary approach to coaching football skills has been developed with an understanding of how this age group learn to play football and what they want from physical exercise. This approach to coaching football skills is truly child-centred, is for all ability levels, and focuses on individual children’s learning needs.
The objective of the FA Tesco Skills Programme is to improve the technique, confidence and ball skills of 5-11 year-old boys and girls in England. The Skills programme aims to develop better agility, balance and coordination, making children better at all sports!
Fun activities are designed by the assistance of age specialist skills coaches that will help improve children’s ability to work as part of a team, solve problems and make decisions. All the while building confidence towards physical activity and improving their football ability.
The Somerset Skills Team work throughout the county visiting Primary Schools, Charter Standard Clubs and delivering at FA Skill Centres. Please click on the venue closest to you to learn more information as well as what the team does to support 5-11 football in your area.
