Westfield Old Boys Crowned 'Veteran League' Champions 2009
Westfield Old Boys have been crowned champions of Somerset FA's Veterans League. Veteran League fixtures have been taking place on Saturday mornings at Writhlington Schools 3G Astro Pitch during July and August.
Westfield received their winners trophy from Somerset FA's Chief Executive Jon Pike after their final fixture against High Littleton, which ended in a 0.0 draw. The draw maintained Westfield's unbeaten record throughout the competition, clocking up 4 wins and 2 draws.
The 'Player of the Tournament' award went to Paul Ranger of the ironically named team 'The Zimmers' for his fantastic individual performances over the last 8 weeks.
The League was ran to cater for the more mature player that was aged over 35 (though 2 players where allowed to be under the age of 35).
All games were played to a flexible format which included staggered fixtures and staggered kick off times. All games were 25 minutes each way and an accommodating approach was adopted for the amount of players playing per side (8 to 11 aside).
The League was ran by Brendan Dix (Football Development Officer Somerset FA) and Marcus Holmes (Football Development Officer Writhlington School).
