In Somerset, the growth in female football has been clearly demonstrated in both schools and clubs. Examples of girls football initiatives running throughout the county include; FA Coaching Courses, School Football Leagues and Festivals, School-Club Link, FA Tesco Skills Coach Programmes and the FA Charter Standard Award. The County FA Development Team work with a number of key partners such as School Sports Partnerships, Somerset Schools FA, FE/HE Colleges and Local Authorities to support with the delivery of these programmes.
There is a clear structure for girl’s and women’s club football within the county:
The Somerset County Girls Football League is an FA Charter Standard League, firmly established and caters for U10—U16 girls .
The Somerset Women’s Senior Football League, which is step 6 on the National Pyramid, feeds in to the South West Women's Football League.
We also have clubs competing at the top end of the pyramid in the FA Tesco Women’s Premier League (Southern Division).
