Referee Courses

Whatever your interest in refereeing we have a course to suit your needs! From mini soccer and basic referee skills through to the full referee’s qualification, we have a course that will enable you to meet your goals.

Courses are available for those wanting to operate as a club Referee or for parents, managers, coaches and players who simply want to increase their knowledge of the Laws of the Game. Specialised courses are also run for mini soccer. The full Referee’s qualification is designed solely for those who intend to referee 11 a-side football on a regular basis.

The first step on the refereeing pathway is to contact Somerset FA’s Office, who will advise you on the most appropriate course for you.

The full Referee qualification now requires the following:

1) Pre course study to be completed prior to the introduction evening
2) Attendance at the introduction evening
3) Criminal Records Bureau checks for all over 18s
4) Safeguarding Children training for all candidates
5) Attendance at the refereeing training course
6) Completion of 6 11 a-side matches
7) Attendance at a subsequent training evening

Only after this will you be a qualified referee.

Completing your referee qualification requires a considerable commitment.

Details of courses being held across the County are available from the Office.
