Girls U16 Cup Winners

Fry Club win U16 Girls competition

Fry Club are the new holders of the Somerset Girls Under 16 cup.

Fry Club beat Clevedon Ladies by 2-1 at Wells City FC on Saturday 1st March and became the second winners of the County competition.

This season Somerset also entered the Tesco Cup Competition so the match also doubled as the final of that competition, and the final whistle saw the team pick up the magnificent Tesco Cup as well as the County Trophy

In spite of very windy conditions, both teams provided an exciting game, with the result in doubt to the very last kick. Clevedon took the lead after a ¼ of an hour with an unstoppable drive from the edge of the box that gave the Fry Club keeper no chance. However Fry’s took less than 10 minutes to draw level with an equally impressive from their centre forward after beating the offside trap. The remainder of the match saw both teams create chances to win the match but neither side were able to take them until with a little over ten minutes remaining Fry’s snatched the lead. In spite of a late onslaught from Clevedon the Fry’s defence proved resolute and held out to clinch victory.

Fry’s now go forward to the regional Final of the Tesco Cup at Bath University on 4th May where they will represent Somerset.

Congratulations to both teams for an excellent match and good luck to Fry Club in May
