Saturday 27th February 2010 will see the first South West Regional Trials for players with Learning Disabilities, take place in Somerset.
Buckler's Mead School's brand new 3G football facility will be host to this prestigous event and players from all over the South West will be invited to come along and show the England Scouts their abilities.
The trials are for U18 players (15 - 17) and the aim is to find a group of players with excellent abilities to form a South West Learning Disability U18 Team. The FA is keen to develop Disability Football across the country and currently support 6 National Disability Teams. The formation of Regional U18 Development Teams will increase the access to players to link into the national teams in the future.
Rachael Edwards, Disability Football Development Officer for Somerset FA said "Somerset FA is proud to host the first Regional Learning Disability Trials for the South West. This is a great opportunity for players with learning disabilities to come along and show their potential infront of England Scouts. The development of an U18 Learning Disability Regional Team is a great step forward for the South West in creating more sustainable pathways for players to reach their potential. Hopefully we can get many players along to the trials so we can showcase the abilities that are out there in Somerset and the rest of the Region."
