Mark Ingram a 2nd year Mechanical Engineering student and Ian Parkes a 3rd year Coach Education and Sports Development student have been selected for the Great Britain Futsal Team. They will now travel to Serbia, Novi Sad next month to compete at the World University Futsal Championships. Furthermore, Rob Yilmaz a 1st year Coach Education and Sports Development student narrowly missed out on selection but will be keen to be selected in two years time.
Mark and Ian who have been trialling with the Great Britain squad over the summer were selected this week to compete at this Internationally recognised event. This is a great achievement for them as they only started playing Futsal three years ago when the Team Bath Futsal Club first established itself entering into the FA National Futsal League.
This is a huge club development and it is hoped will encourage a wave of new students come October wanting to play Futsal.
The success of Mark and Ian has followed on the back of past individual honours with club Goal Keeper Lee Jones, former students Brendan Dix, Sion Kitson and Marc Canham all being involved with either the Full England team or the Great Britain Futsal Team highlighting the growth of Futsal at the University of Bath.
The Club and the whole of the Univeristy wish them a successful competition and hope their international experience will spur on Team Bath Futsal Club to become number one in the country next season.
