National Recognition for Ex Youth Council Chair

Former Youth Council Chair, Oli Moore, has been recognised for his efforts to develop himself, others and the game by receiving The Joel Richards Inspire Award at last week’s FA Leadership Academy Graduation Ceremony.

The award, which was introduced for the first time in 2016, was created to recognise and celebrate the life of Joel Richards who was tragically killed in the fatal mass-shooting attacks in Tunisia on 26 June 2015. Joel was an extremely talented youth leader, always looking to support the development of others, creating opportunities for young people to get involved in the game.

Oli has actively taken opportunities to hold leadership positions working to develop the game for others and the game both locally and nationally. As Somerset FA Youth Council Chair, Oli has evolved the leadership programme for his team members. Devising and developing a personal development programme including a season long structure of CPD workshops and reflection sessions, creation of a personal development folder for members to log their progress. This work also enhanced the link between Somerset FA and the Youth Council, developing youth and adult partnerships, in pairing staff and members to receive mentor support.

By investing in the development of others, Oli has been able to create an open environment for members to share and evolve ideas. Oli has ensured that work of the Somerset FA Youth Council has impacted upon young people through putting Youth Leaders at the forefront of delivery of the Somerset FA operational plan. Twelve young coaches have been supported through a bespoke Coaches Academy programme, over 75 youth leaders have joined the FA’s Youth Leadership Programme following out-reach work and following a period of insight Oli has led the creation and delivery of a disability turn up and play centre.

Through Oli’s actions of representing young people within a league committee, other youth leagues have asked for Youth Council support. Oli has impacted on 4 leagues now having youth council representative, in Yeovil this is a position which has been voted in by members.

Oli’s work locally has supported his progression to Chair the ECFA National Student Leadership Committee who provide a voice for students across the game in Colleges. The attitude and want to support the development of other is mirrored by Oli’s drive to develop himself. He continues to find opportunities to further his impact across the game, putting Youth Leaders at the forefront of his vision.
