2018 U15 Cup

Mendip Broadwalk Making History

On Sunday May 13th 2018, Mendip Broadwalk U15’s made County history.

The treble of consecutive Somerset County Cups in the bag.

Mendip Broadwalk U15s are the first ever team to reach three consecutive Youth Somerset FA County Cup Finals - one of which was our inaugural U15 Cup Final. They also did the hard part; they won them! A massive achievement by any teams standards.

2015-16 U13 Cup Winners, 2016-17 Lewin Cup Winners & 2017-18 U15 Cup Winners

The team started off as Broadwalk U9’s and won multiple promotions, leagues & tournaments and has been on a non-stop run of success.

Manager, Mark Penny was key in the talks for the merger of Broadwalk & Mendip football clubs in 2015. And marked their first ever season as Mendip Broadwalk FC by winning the U13 Somerset County Cup which was held at Street FC.

The following season ( 2016-17 ) they were at it again. This time stopping Mangotsfield Youth from winning an unprecedented league & cup quadruple by beating them 2-0 at Bishop Sutton’s Ground. A fantastic game.

Mark  brought in assistants Steve Philips and Damian Chilcott this season to add even more experience in the dugout.

This years Cup was the big one though. As it was history that may not ever be repeated. History which the club is so very proud to be part of.

A really tough 1-0 victory & battle over Tone Youth FC at Cheddar sealed it.

Tone Youth FC were no push overs and had a real physical presence about them. As this piece was written they are top of the Taunton Youth league needing one point from two games to win their league title.

Leagues are fantastic to win, and Mark's team fell just a little short in the Avon Youth League Division 1 this season. Finishing a very respectable 4th. They did  however manage to beat all 3 sides that finished above them in various league & cup fixtures this season; showing just how competitive the league was this year.

As the end of the season got near and the latter stages of this Cup was coming up, it was as if this cup and a chance to have a bit of history became a priority. Personnel at the club started trying to find out if any other team have ever done this unique cup treble achievement. And once it was confirmed they could be the first club to do it, it became a must!

These cup final victories will always be etched in everyone’s minds, especially the young players who will never forget them; which at the end of the day is really what it’s all about.

As always, the team was really well supported by a great bunch of parents, supporters and committee members. Great to see!

We were very humbled when Mendip Broadwalk wished to thank Somerset FA for really making the final 'special' and the great trophy presentation from Bryan Wells JP, which  'looked the part'.

And thanks to Cheddar FC who were great hosts from both us at Somerset FA and Mendip Broadwalk.

A massive well done to Mark & his successful & professional looking management team. And a massive congratulations to all the players who are a great team.

Next season we expect to see this team progress through our Youth Shield (U16 Boys) competition, could they win every Youth Boys Competition by Somerset FA and make it a quadruple? Join us in May 2019 to find out!
