Somerset FA are sad to report the death of Steve Hillier.

Steve was a long time servant of the game he loved and had served in many different roles in grass roots football. His latest role was as fixture secretary of the Somerset County League over the last few seasons where he had done sterling job, even being one of those people who had mastered the complexities of Whole Game System!

Before the time with the County League, Steve had spent a number of years as secretary of Bishops Sutton and after that had moved to Bristol Manor Farm. Steve also served on the Somerset FA Council and Disciplinary Committee.

Steve was a great servant of the game, as demonstrated by his many roles, often in the unsung but vital areas of the game, without which football couldn’t happen. He was also someone willing to help others; just the start of this season he offered advice and help to another league in our county who were experiencing problems with Whole Game, advice that had been gratefully received by the league in question and helped solve their problems. Although offered a reward by that league as thanks, Steve declined and just did this to help out someone with a problem in football.

Obviously at this time with current restrictions many of us who would have wanted to attend his funeral will be unable to do so. Hopefully there will be an opportunity at a later date when we can say our goodbyes to a thoroughly decent and nice guy and great servant of our game. He will be missed by us all.

Our thoughts are with his family and many friends at this sad time.
