The Somerset FA Youth Council was created to provide the young people of Somerset a voice in football, improving the representation of the Somerset FA Council to truly represent the whole football community. The Youth Council gives young people the opportunity to make a positive contribution to football within Somerset and provides an inclusive and supportive environment for members to develop their skills, knowledge, confidence and creative thinking.
There are approximately 120,000 young people living in Somerset, of which over 150 are part of the Somerset FA Football Futures young leadership scheme and have completed over 6000 hours of football volunteering in the last year. Young people are the future of our game; our future players and our future workforce. Therefore, it’s vital we engage and retain them in the game from an early age to secure the future of football. The formation of a Youth Council would not only expand our children and young people football network, but also gain a better understanding of children and young people’s needs.
Somerset FA Youth Council consists of a group of young people aged between 16-24, supported by Somerset FA staff members and Directors. The team hold monthly meetings and each represent their local community, demographic (across local authorities) and age (16-24yrs) spread of youth football.
