There are so many ways for girls and women to join in, no matter what your age or ability level, whether you just want to have a kickabout with your mates or whether you want to be the next Steph Houghton.

Somerset FA supports a number of leagues and opportunities across the County for women & girls to play the beautiful game.

Somerset Girls Football League

The Somerset Girls’ Football League is a Saturday morning league and has been in place for many years, providing great competitive fixture opportunities for Somerset teams coming from all over the County and beyond.

The league hosts a full pathway of competitive divisions:

U10s Development League*
U11s
U12s
U13s
U14s
U15s
U16s

*The U10s Development League is a festival-based league, played once a month (Oct-Dec) and then weekly fixtures thereafter (Jan – Apr) to give young players their first experience of competitive games.  The Development festivals are in place to offer a safe and positive environment and is extremely popular between teams in Somerset with young females coming through into their teams.  Teams outside of the Somerset Girls League can enter into these age groups which are played on Saturday mornings at Strode College Sports Centre in Street.

*The U11s League follows the same pattern as the U10s League between Oct – Dec; hosting 3 central venue festivals for all teams.  From January; teams then play friendly games home and away (every 2 weeks) for the remainder of the season.  This is to help support teams and players ahead of the transition into U12s competition of weekly fixtures.

The league has a committed and excellent Committee in place to manage and develop the league and we are always on the look out for more volunteers to support our ambitions of providing more age groups and further opportunities for players, coaches and teams.  If you are interested, please contact the Somerset Girls League Chair, Rachael Lawler-Edwards at somersetgirlsleague@gmail.com or 07951 360626.
