The Weston-super-Mare and District League has achieved the coveted FA Charter Standard League Status.

We are delighted to announce that the Weston Super Mare & District Men’s League have gained FA Charter Standard League status. They are only the third men’s league in Somerset to achieve this accolade and we would like to congratulate Rob Hooper, the league chairman and the whole league committee on this huge achievement.

The league were presented their award at Worle FC with life members, league sponsors and current committee members all in attendance. Together with members of Somerset FA and also The FA, who attended the presentation to film the league’s achievement and interview the league members.

The FA Charter Standard League is an accreditation that sets an operational benchmark for FA sanctioned leagues and helps support and reward clubs. FA Research has demonstrated that Adult Charter Standard Clubs and leagues are more sustainable and attract additional teams, players and volunteers.

Member clubs in the league will now benefit from a set of free Nike Match Balls each season, kit and equipment vouchers, discounts on local grass and 3G pitches, the opportunity to apply for £750 of funding and the benefit of having a qualified FA first aider in their team.

Rob Hooper (WSM & District League Chairman) said: After all the hard work by Weston Super Mare League committee we were pleased to be awarded the Charter standard status by the FA. We are now a progressive League and aim to raise the standards of  our League and the Clubs playing in our competitions now we have attained this status. We recognise that it is just as important to keep the clubs we have as well as attract new ones and this award is the first step to help achieve this. Our aim is to enhance the enjoyment of the game for players, coaches and officials alike. We would like to thank Somerset FA and particularly Aaron Clements for their support in achieving this award.

Aaron Clements (Somerset FA Senior Football Development Officer) said:  "This is a fantastic achievement for Rob and the league. They are a very proactive league, with a knowledgeable and driven league committee. They are always looking at ways to raise standards within the league and support their member clubs. By becoming a Charter Standard league, the league can save their clubs money with discounted pitch hire fee’s, free kit and equipment and funding opportunities. It will also ensure that players, coaches and referees receive a better football experience within the league too”
