Under 16s County Cup Match Report
Brislington FC hosted a wonderful day of county cup action wth both under 16s cups.
For a change, the sun was out and the weather was beautiful, hundreds of family and friends attended to support the players from Stockwood Wanderers, Bridgwater United, Bath City and Chew Valley FC.
The day started with the girls u16's final, between Stockwood Wanderers and Bridgwater United. Bridgwater was looking to complete a treble of cup wins for their ladies and girls section, and as the game started they began to take control of the game.
Bridgwater built the pressure and just a few minutes into the game had taken the lead. They quickly added to that tally and at the break were 5 up. Stockwood had a few half-chances of their own but was unable to make any count. Straight after the break, Stockwood got into the game with a goal of their own but Bridgwater hit straight back with their 6th before adding their 7th and 8th before the final whistle. Stockwood had more chances in the second half for more goals but the Bridgwater keeper and crossbar kept their tally to just 1.
As the final whistle blew Bridgwater were the winners, 1-8 and lifted the trophy completing the treble for the club.
Up next were the boys, and expectations were high for a very competitive game.
The game was played at a fast pace throughout and there were chances at both ends, but it was Chew Valley who broke the deadlock with a tap in from a few yards out. Bath continued to press but couldn't find the chance to even up the game, and at the break, Chew Valley led 1-0.
After the break, the pace and intensity of the game increased as Bath searched for an equaliser and Chew Valley looked to extend their lead.
It was Chew Valley that got the goal from another freekick doubling their lead and positioning them well for the win. Bath rolled the dice and made some changes and the game opened up. The chances came thick and fast but neither team were able to capitalise and at the full-time whistle, Chew Valley were winners, 2-0.
Thank you to everyone involved and well done to both Bridgwater and Chew Valley on their wins.
