New Referees Course

Sunday saw the completion of the first new referees course in Somerset.

New referees from around the County were the first to complete the new style referees course that was held at Taunton Vale in November.

The course was run over two Sundays and a Tuesday evening, it gave the candidates the opportunity to learn how to referee in a practical environment.

Referee Development Officer Jo Stimpson said " The course was a real success. The purpose of the new course is to make sure our new referees are completely prepared for refereeing in the real world. On the final day of the course they were all able to referee a football match in a controlled environment under the supervision of the course tutors, all candidates showed the skill level and confidence to be able to referee in grass roots football next weekend"

All referees on completion of the new course will have 5 games appointed by our league appointments officers and will be supported by Somerset FA mentors on these games.
